Shuichiro Keido (茎道 修一郎, Keidō Shūichirō) is the head of the Antibodies in GHQ. In his first appearances, he seems minor to the plot. However, he is firmly established in later episodes as the story's main antagonist.

Appearance[]

Shuichiro is a middle aged man with grey hair and a medium sized mustache.

He usually wore a lab coat, when in GHQ.

Personality[]

On the outside at least, Shuichiro appears to a be very stoic (albeit grim) individual who almost always maintains a calm and collected demeanor. During flashbacks in episode 20, the first thing that stands out about Shuichiro is his single-minded commitment to his research and his arrogant contempt for all those less intelligent than himself. This changed when he first met Kurosu Ouma and found someone who could keep up with him intellectually. While at first pleased by Kurosu's company, Shuichiro's feelings for him increasingly degenerated into envy and outright hatred as he began to realize that his colleague's talents surpassed his own. Ultimately, such bitterness transformed Shuichiro into a cruel and deranged monster hell-bent on destroying the world to satisfy his lust for vengeance.

Background[]

As a graduate student, Shuichiro's brilliance isolated him from the rest of his peers whom he ultimately came to see as mere annoyances that obstructed his intellectual growth. Upon meeting Kurosu Ouma, he finally met a person whom he could call his equal and the two quickly became friends due to their mutual interest in genomic resonance. However, over the years, Shuichiro grew increasingly embittered towards Kurosu as he witnessed his colleague's success and intellect steadily eclipse his own. When Kurosu refuses to take part in Da'ath's plan to engineer mankind's "evolution" through a Fourth Apocalypse, Shuichiro volunteers in his place. Subsequently, with Da'ath's full backing, he proceeds to experiment on countless orphans (including Gai Tsutsugami) to find a suitable "Adam" for the new humanity that will inherit the world in the Apocalypse Virus's wake. However, upon later discovering that Kurosu has single-handedly discovered a method for counteracting the effects of the Apocalypse Virus, Shuichiro murders his friend in a jealous rage. From that moment forward, Shuichiro dedicates his entire being to ending the world that Kurosu sought to save.

Etymology[]

  • The name Shuichiro means "discipline, study, conduct oneself well, master" (修) (shu), "one" (一) (ichi) and "son" (郎) (ro).
  • Shuichiro's surname Keido means "stem, stalk" (茎) (kei) and "path" (道) (do).
